Easy They Play Not

I was happy that a Dionela is involving himself on music. Music of the kick-ass kind – rock music. I was thinking this is really right up my alley. I’m a music enthusiast and i consider my taste a dependable one. A quick look to my collection: Dream Theater’s Images and Words and live cds, four Lamb of God albums, some Eric Clapton, Black Sabbath, Meshuggah, to local albums of Queso, Urbandub, Radioactive Sago Project, Greyhoundz and blah, blah, blah…
Easy Play
Sorry, got a bit excited there. Meet Easy Play,  an Iloilo-based alternative rock band composed of  Jack-son Pete Fernandez Barrido(Vocals), Chas Buenavista (Guitars, Vocals), Rey Domingo (Guitars), Val Peter James Bacero Billones( Drums), and of course Jason Dionela (Guitars). I got a chance to sample their music and oh! easy they play not. Take “Musika ng Bayan”, a hard rock anthemic tune where everyone is truly rocking out. I like the way how the recording captured the rawness and energy of the song. The vocals stands out, sounding like that of their listed influence (Bamboo) and sometimes sounding 6cyclemind-ish back when they’re considered cool. Rhythm section is tight, so that’s good as evident on other tracks like “Kaibigan Lang”, “Believe”, and “Appreciate” and the guitars lines are superb.
Their influences are Bamboo, Dream Theater, Metallica, Dragonforce, Nirvana, MJAH, Mr. Big to icons such as Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai. They will be coming out with their first album, “Musika ng Bayan” containing 10 original songs. Looking forward for that and seeing them live.
Visit their Facebook page here. Click the Like Button and sample their tunes while you’re at it.
Thank you!

We congratulate them both and may God Bless them, as being a priest is not a destination, it is a journey.

If you have noticed, we added a new category named the ‘Young Dionelas’ because, apparently there is quite a number of young Dionela achievers on different fields that they deserve to have one. It is, as we put it, a companion to the earlier ‘Distinguished Dionelas’ category. These young Dionelas we already featured and the others that will be getting their light here in the future are the next generation of them Distingushed Dionelas in carrying the torch – the legacy of our name and consanguinity.

So we’re done with the drama, now we’ll dish out one young Dionela achiever on our list.

Hannah on her visit in New York

Enjoying the good life in Singapore is Hannah Pamela Dionela, an Interior Designer for the well-known international chain of hotels and resorts – the Banyan Tree.

Hannah is the young daughter of Carlito Dionela and Ana Del Rosario and a sister to Karluis Dionela, currently an Operations Manager of IBM and is based in Quezon City. Though she was born and raised in Manila, she had spent most of her childhood summers in Pandan, Antique (his dad, as you should know by now, is a native of that town).

She was schooled in St. Theresa’s College, Quezon City then took up B.S. Interior Design in University of Sto. Tomas where she graduated cum laude. After graduating, she went to take the board exams and became a licensed Interior Designer which in turn enabled her to get the attention of one of the top Architectural firms in the Philippines – Jonathan Gan and Associates where she worked for two years.
When her mother got assigned in Indonesia, she decided to move to Singapore and the rest, like they say is history. She’s been in Singapore for three years now.
Hannah, among other things love to travel. She has been to a few places (a few according to her), listing New York, Morocco, Maldives and Mexico as her favorites. Her free times are spent mostly on yoga, going out with friends and reading books (with titles from household names Paolo Coelho and Haruki Murakami). She is also into wave boarding and salsa (I mean the dance).
Lastly, she is also involved in visiting old folk’s centers in Singapore. A few times in a year, they visit the elderly, spend some time with them and attend to their needs.

Love Notes and Ashes

from: www.lovenotesandashes.com

Love Notes and Ashes – an all Filipino band from Dublin, Ireland which happen to have the Dionela siblings Kyra and Kirk on the vocals and bass respectively. Currently unsigned, their music is leaning towards the hard alternative path (read:Alt-rock/progressive/experimental) heavily and evidently influenced by bands like Paramore, Flyleaf, Incubus (the guitars, man!), Deftones, to classic acts AC/DC, Rush, and Jimmy Hendrix even local ones like Up Dharma Down, and in this writer’s head, Sugar Hiccup and Urbandub.

Quoted from Facebook Fan Page:

“Known as Love Notes and Ashes. This quartet is comprised of Jarro Ardinez on guitar, Chester Abellara on drums, Kirk Dionela on bass and fronted by Kyra Dionela.

Out of the country of The Philippines, the quartet took ground in the new, different world of Ireland, with each of their families.

Love Notes and Ashes was formed on March 2010 as a collaborative project with the intention of combining a collection of ideas and intrumentals from the vision of four independent artists.

This unsigned band, set storm to debut their name in Dublin’s music scene. Winning battles, releasing their self-titled EP and combining with fresh, young bands to form a self concert called ‘The Nomadic Amalgamation.’ Love Notes and Ashes played anywhere they could, challenging the ears of all music lovers.”

The band is managed by Kyra and Kirk’s father Arnold Dionela from Iloilo. They already won a number of battle of the bands in Ireland, the latest being semi-finalist for the this year’s Emergenza Festival in Germany as they represent Ireland happening on June 9, 2011. Way to go guys! Keep the fire burning alive!
